Job type: Full time We areseeking a MACTE-accredited Casa educator for our 2 and 3 year old classroom that we call the Earth Room.

About us: WMCC is in Toronto and is located on Toronto Island.

We are a licensed childcare for children 2 1/2 to 5 years of age. We have a mixed-age grouping license.  Our program is a mix of early childhood play based learning, Montessori, and nature programming.  Our hours are from 8:15 to 4:45 each day.  The drop off and pickup is at the ferry dock located at Queens Quay and Bay or Wards Island for Island children. It is an active program, and our educators work together to blend Montessori, play, and nature within the requirements for childcare licensing.

Our school is in a unique setting for a downtown Toronto school. We have access to the Island Park and the natural setting that it provides, and we are nestled within the Island Community.  WMCC is celebrating our 50th year of operation this year and our goal is to create community, a love of learning, and an awareness of the natural world.

We are looking for an individual to run our classroom for the 2- and 3-year-olds. 

 Key responsibilities:

  • Planning and implementing a program for children 2 to 3 years of age and working with the teaching team.
  • Our class sizes are small with 12 in the Earth Room.
  • Supervision:  The children are dropped off with us at the ferry dock city side in the morning.  We are responsible for the children on the ferry and the trip to and from the Centre as well as classroom time, outdoor activities, snacks, lunch and rest time.  We maintain 8 to 1 ratios at all times.
  • Our school is a parent cooperative style so good communication between parents and educators is imperative.

Qualifications and skills:

  • RECE -registered Early Childhood Educator and or MACTE-accredited Montessori diploma
  • Experience working with the Ministry of Education requirements for childcare licensing
  • Standard First Aid level C, Vulnerable Sector Check, standard proof of immunization needed to work in childcare.
