Vulnerable Sector Check

The Vulnerable Sector Check is required by the Ministry of Education and your Placement School. This is a mandatory requirement for all individuals working with or observing children.

Montessori Teachers College requires you to obtain a current Vulnerable Sector Check (within the last 2 months) prior to you starting the program.

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO OBTAIN YOUR VULNERABLE SECTOR CHECK

TO APPLY ONLINE:

STEP 1: Email Montessori Teachers College at registrar@mtcedu.com and request the Consent to Disclosure (Vulnerable Sector Screening) Form.

STEP 2: Once we receive your request for the Consent to Disclosure (Vulnerable Sector Screening) Form, Montessori Teachers College will email you a copy immediately. This will provide you with the agency code required to submit your form.

STEP 3: Visit the link here to create an account with the Toronto Police.

STEP 4: Log into your account and navigate to New Record Check Request to submit the application, using the agency code on the form and two pieces of government ID to complete the application.

STEP 5: Payment can be made with Visa, Visa Debit, MasterCard or American Express. You will be charged $71.72, and an extra $25 if fingerprinting is required.

 

TO APPLY IN PERSON

STEP 3: Visit the Information Access counter at the Toronto Police Service Headquarters, located at 40 College Street. They are open Monday to Friday, excluding statutory holidays, from 7 am to 4:30 pm. Please bring two pieces of government-issued ID.

STEP 4: An administrative fee must be paid with debit or credit at the Information Access counter. You will be charged $71.72, and an extra $25 if fingerprinting is required.

 

TO APPLY BY MAIL

STEP 1: Email Montessori Teachers College at registrar@mtcedu.com and request the Consent to Disclosure (Vulnerable Sector Screening) Form.

STEP 3: Through Canada post, you will need to mail the police your completed, signed application form, as well as clear copies of your two pieces of government-issued identification. Your payment can be paid by certified cheque, business cheque or money order made payable to Toronto Police Service. You will be charged $71.72, and an extra $25 if fingerprinting is required.

TO APPLY IN PERSON:

York strongly encourages applicants to apply online (see the process below). If you must apply in person, applications are by appointment one.

STEP 1: Call and book an appointment at 1-866-876-5423 ext. 7655

STEP 2: Ensure you have two pieces of Government ID. See examples of appropriate Government ID below.

STEP 3: On your appointment date, take your government ID to 47 Don Hillock Drive, Aurora, ON, where you will fill out the application form.

STEP 4: Pay the appropriate administrative fees. The fee for a VSC is $71. If they require fingerprints to be completed to confirm your identity, the fee will be $116.

 

TO APPLY ONLINE:

STEP 1: Ensure you have two pieces of Government ID. See examples of appropriate Government ID below.

STEP 2: Follow this link and follow the instructions on-screen: https://event.yrp.ca/OnlineClearance/VSC_Main.aspx

STEP 3: Pay your fee. Once you hit “submit” you will be redirected to a payment screen. They accept Visa or Mastercard—no gift cards or debit cards. The fee for a VSC is $71. If they require fingerprints to be completed to confirm the identity, the fee will be $116.

STEP 4: By default, your VSC will be provided electronically via a secure link. Hand copies are no longer provided by default. Please note that Montessori Teachers College WILL NOT accept an emailed version/copy of your VSC therefore you MUST request a pick up of the document. You will be asked to pick up the document at the location you chose when applying. Remember to take the SAME two pieces of ID that you used to apply.

TO APPLY ONLINE:

STEP 1: Create an account to apply for your VSC: https://rec-check.peelpolice.ca/

STEP 2: Check your email to retrieve your Account Creation code (this email will be sent to you right away from support@onlinepolicecheck.ca). Please check your junk mail if you do not see it in your inbox.

STEP 3: Login with your new username and password and click on “New Application” shown at the top of your screen.

STEP 4: Click on Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC). It will confirm that this is the type of Criminal Check that you want. Click on “Choose Vulnerable Sector Check”.

STEP 5: Ensure you have two pieces of Government ID, (one of which must be your SIN card) prior to starting your application. See examples of appropriate Government ID below.

You cannot walk away from your application, once you have everything click Continue to begin your application.

STEP 6: Under Result Notification Type ensure you click the FIRST option (to receive an embossed hard copy of your results delivered by Canada Post). Montessori Teachers College will NOT accept an emailed version/copy of your VSC.

STEP 7: Complete your online application and pay your fee of $35 online. Should they require fingerprints to confirm your identity it will be an additional $27. You can pay with Visa, Mastercard, or Debit.

STEP 2: Ensure you have two pieces of government-issued ID (see below for examples).

STEP 3: Take your ID with you to the Brampton office at the Sir Robert Peel Centre, 7750 Hurontario Street,
L6V 3W6, or their Mississauga location at 11 Division, 3030 Erin Mills Pkwy, Mississauga, L5L 1W8. Both locations close on Wednesdays for in-person intake, and are otherwise open Monday to Friday 8am – 4pm. 

STEP 4: Pay the administrative fees through Debit, Mastercard, or Visa.

Please note that residents in the City of Calgary CANNOT apply online if you wish to receive a hard copy of the Vulnerable Sector Check. Please note that Montessori Teachers College WILL NOT accept an emailed version/copy of your VSC therefore you MUST visit one of the locations listed on the website in-person to receive a hard copy.

TO APPLY IN PERSON:

STEP 1: Identify which location is closest to you by visiting the Police Information Check Locations online: https://www.calgary.ca/cps/public-services/police-information-checks-locations.html

STEP 2: Ensure you have two pieces of Government ID. See examples of appropriate Government ID below.

STEP 3: Visit the location closest to you and request a hardcopy of VSC.

STEP 4: Pay the applicable fee of $55 and obtain your hardcopy of VSC. Payment can be made by AMEX, Visa, MasterCard, or Interac/Debit. Cash is also accepted at the CPS Westwinds Campus only.

The identification must confirm your name, date of birth and address, and one piece of government identification must include a photo. Please note that Health Cards will note be accepted for identification purposes.

Scan & send your Vulnerable Sector Check to Montessori Teachers College

On your first visit to your Placement School, take your original Vulnerable Sector Check with you. Your Placement School will review your original Vulnerable Sector Check, take a photocopy, and return the original back to you.
