M.Ed. in Educational Leadership - Montessori Educator Option

MTC graduates from our MACTE-accredited Montessori Diploma Programs may be eligible for advanced standing credits to fast-track through this Masters of Education program!

Program Features

The Montessori educator option of the MEd is focused on Montessori trained teachers and features:

  • Exclusive Montessori cohort and Montessori community building
  • Inclusive environment open to learners at all stages in their career
  • Part-time, distance-based course work
  • Develop an empirical research or applied project based thesis

Program Courses

  • Foundations of Educational LeadershipFall 2026 – Saturday morning online synchronous course running over approximately 10 weekends of the fall semester exploring leadership theory with connections to Montessori education and problem of practice exploration.
  • Research in EducationSpring 2027 – Saturday morning online synchronous course running over approximately 10 weekends of the spring semester exploring research methods with a focus on data collection or applied project development, research ethics applications, and literature review in support of thesis work.
  • Thesis Topic Exploration and DevelopmentMay/June 2027 – Independent work with some seminars supporting thesis topic development and overall thesis structure.
  • Field InquiryJuly/August 2027 – Independent work with the support of a thesis supervisor focusing on data collection or applied project design and development.
  • Major ProjectFall 2027 – Continued independent work with thesis supervisor support of data analysis or project analysis and final thesis document completion.
  • Degree Conferral or Additional Course CompletionSpring 2028 – If maximum advanced standing credits for Montessori teacher training are awarded, no additional course work or credits are required. If additional course work is required, an individualized plan will be developed collaboratively between the student and the program. Graduation ceremony with cap and gown will be held in June 2028 at the Nanaimo, BC VIU campus; degree conferral occurs upon program completion.

Program Start: September 2026

Applications open October 1, 2025 and close June 2, 2026 with ongoing application review and admission until the program is full (max. size = 25)
