Program Overview

The Lower Elementary Montessori Diploma Program (Intensive 6-months) prepares the aspiring teacher to work with children from 6 to 9 years of age. This program is based on the fundamental Montessori philosophy and methodology and will provide detailed knowledge of contemporary approaches to Elementary child development within the framework of the Montessori pedagogy. 

Program Details

This online blended Lower Elementary Montessori Diploma Program (Intensive 6-months) is created with you in mind. Our interactive learning system is uniquely suited to combine flexible and self-paced online learning with an in-person practical review component, guided by our experienced Montessori faculty.

The program consists of detailed, theoretical lectures on Dr. Maria Montessori’s guiding principles of observing and following the Lower Elementary child.

As part of your diploma program, you will be required to complete a practicum internship in an Lower Elementary Montessori environment under the guidance of a certified Montessori Teacher and/or your MTC assigned Field Supervisor. Working with children while being mentored will provide you with one of the most valuable learning experiences. You will gain knowledge on how to observe, facilitate and support children in their developmental growth while working through a wide range of real-life scenarios.

The overall goal is for you to obtain Montessori academic knowledge while providing you the opportunity and skill-set to develop your classroom and teaching style.

The Lower Elementary Montessori Diploma Program (Intensive 6-months) is comprised of the following:

    Synchronous online learning (1 virtual lecture, per week) 

    Asynchronous online learning (self-paced)

    Practical Review days (in-person)

    Observation 

    Practicum (450 hours)

The Academic Instruction/curriculum includes:

    Biology & Intermediate Theory I

    Arithmetic & Intermediate Theory II

    History & Intermediate Theory III

    Geography & Cosmic Theory

Successful completion of this program will earn you an Lower Elementary Montessori Diploma (Intensive 6-months).

Have completed a Lower Elementary Montessori Foundations Certificate Course within the past year at MTC in order to qualify

Admission Requirements

Applicants must:

Be 18 years of age or older

Submit a current resume 

Have completed a University Degree or equivalent

Pass the English Language Assessment

Submit Photo Identification 

Admission Process

The admission process is as follows:

Step 1: Submit Application Form

Step 2: Upload required supporting documents here within 24 hours of your application submission

Step 3: Montessori Teachers College will contact you to set up a virtual interview which involves an oral language assessment

Step 4: Upon a successful interview and review of your submitted documents, Montessori Teachers College will require the completion of a written language assessment which will be sent to you by email

Step 5: Upon successful completion of the written language assessment, Montessori Teachers College will email you the Acceptance Letter
