About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Toddler Directress to provide a Montessori classroom program tailored to meet the individual needs of children, aligned with our school’s mission and vision. Your role will be to create a stimulating environment that fosters curiosity, independence, and growth, guiding children through their own discoveries.

Essential Job Functions

  • Deliver a Montessori instructional program supporting individual child needs.
  • Prepare and maintain an inviting, well-organized classroom environment.
  • Encourage self-directed learning by stepping back and allowing children to explore and solve problems independently.
  • Engage children actively to develop critical thinking skills.
  • Plan and adapt daily lessons based on each child’s interests, progress, and behavior.
  • Conduct one-on-one or small group lessons designed to spark curiosity.
  • Observe children respectfully without using rewards, punishments, or criticism.
  • Foster a trusting atmosphere where children freely choose activities and develop self-discipline.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop lesson plans and manage learning experiences to meet cognitive, emotional, social, and physical needs.
  • Track student progress and report bi-annually to the Principal.
  • Complete required incident reports.
  • Promote self-directed learning and normalization in students.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and prepared environment consistent with Montessori pedagogy and CCEYA regulations.
  • Keep daily logs of noteworthy classroom events.
  • Participate in professional development, staff meetings, open houses, and family events as requested.
  • Build positive relationships with parents through regular communication about child progress.
  • Maintain accurate records including attendance, cleaning, disinfecting, and playground inspections.
  • Ensure compliance with all licensing regulations.
  • Support the admissions process by interacting with prospective families when requested.
  • Follow all school policies and procedures regarding student evaluation and record keeping.

Weekly Tasks

  • Check and maintain learning materials.
  • Remove and report items requiring repair, replacement, or cleaning.
  • Rotate classroom books and materials.
  • Note janitorial service needs and work orders.
  • Adjust classroom routines as necessary.
  • Collaborate with co-workers and the Principal to plan and problem-solve.
  • Participate in parent education initiatives.
  • Prepare for community activities including open houses and special events.

Qualifications

  • Montessori diploma and/or RECE certification required.
  • Knowledge of child development and Montessori pedagogy.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working with preschool-aged children.

Working Conditions

  • Outdoor playtime twice daily, accompanied by the Directress.
  • Required to be outdoors with children, including winter months.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
  • Able to be on foot for at least four hours continuously.
  • Perform physical activities including climbing stairs, walking, squatting, kneeling, sweeping, scrubbing, and reaching items up to six feet high.
  • Adequate vision and hearing to perform duties in English.
  • Must be able to make quick decisions, solve problems, and understand basic measurements.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.00-$22.00 per hour
