Biography

Katherine’s journey into the world of education was ignited by a deep-seated passion for making a difference in the lives of others. Reflecting on her formative years, Katherine recalls the pivotal role her high school teachers played in nurturing her aspirations. At the age of sixteen, she embarked on a path of working with developmentally challenged children and adults, an experience that captivated her from the outset.

Although she initially pursued studies in social work at university, Katherine soon realized that her true calling lay in the realm of teaching. Driven by a relentless curiosity, she explored various educational philosophies until she stumbled upon Montessori. Visiting several Montessori schools, Katherine was instantly captivated by its principles and methodologies, setting her on a trajectory that would define her career for the next three decades.

Throughout her journey, Katherine has immersed herself in the Montessori philosophy, finding enrichment in its holistic approach to education. Her dedication to this pedagogy extends beyond the classroom, permeating every aspect of her life.

Outside of her professional pursuits, Katherine is a fervent advocate for an active and balanced lifestyle. An avid cottage dweller, she relishes the tranquility of summers spent by the lake, indulging in activities like weight training, spinning, canoeing, and paddleboarding. In quieter moments, she finds solace in cozying up on her couch with a steaming cup of tea, delighting in the nostalgia of old movies. Katherine is eagerly anticipating the realization of a long-held dream: the construction of her family’s new timber frame cottage.

Looking ahead, Katherine envisions a future where Montessori education transcends its current boundaries and becomes accessible to all children. With unwavering optimism, she hopes to witness the integration of Montessori principles into the public education system in Canada, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.
