The Lower Elementary Montessori Program Elementary prepares the aspiring teacher to work with children from 6 to 9 years of age in a Montessori Elementary environment. The Elementary Montessori Program is based on the fundamental Montessori philosophy and methodology. This program will provide detailed and broad knowledge of contemporary approach to Elementary child development within the framework of the Montessori philosophy. You will acquire the necessary opportunities, skills and practical hands-on experiences to pursue a career as a skilled, caring and qualified Elementary directress.
The Montessori Teacher’s College is comprised of detailed, theoretical lectures on Dr. Maria Montessori’s guiding principles of observing and following the Lower Elementary child. Materials used by the children 6 to 9 years of age in Language, Grammar, History, Geography, Mathematics, Geometry, Physical Science, Biology, Zoology, Botany, Culture, Music, the Arts and Creativity will be presented and discussed in a prepared Montessori environment.
The practicum/internship is one of the most valuable learning experiences you will undergo and this will include supervised practice with a certified Montessori Elementary Teacher in an Elementary Montessori Prepared Environment. Working with children and being guided and mentored by experienced Elementary Montessori teachers provides you a wide and diverse range of real life, learning and classroom scenarios. You will gain knowledge on how to observe, facilitate, and support Elementary children in their developmental growth in a Montessori classroom environment. Your practicum/internship will provide the practical experiences for you to apply your Montessori academic knowledge while developing your classroom management skills.
The Lower Elementary Montessori Program requires completion of a minimum of 80 Academic hours and 15 Practical Review Days (120 Residency Hours). It also requires completion of 550 Practicum/Observation hours.
