Hours: Must be available to work between the hours of 7:00AM-6:00PM

Nature and scope

Milestone Montessori has provided quality child care in Ajax for over 8  years. We offer a variety of programs for children 0-6 years of age: Early Learning and Care (Toddler, Casa programs); Before and After School Care; and Family Support programs (resource consultation).

The contribution of our staff in the delivery of the Montessori program is at the core of our success as a leader in early childhood education. We are committed to providing staff with the opportunity to further develop the knowledge and skills that will assist them in enhancing the experience of children and families, through our Milestone professional workshops.

 Milestone Montessori’s curriculum for 0-6 year olds, helps children develop and grow by implementing the Montessori Curriculum as a way to learn and become independent. This method gives our Montessori Teachers and early childhood educators insight into how kids learn, which we use to build a dynamic in-class environment to meet the specific needs of the child and ensure the child’s interests help shape their learning experience. Milestone Montessori’s curriculum also helps shape Milestone’s Summer Camps.

 Responsibilities

Early Childhood Care Educators and Montessori Teachers Responsibilities:

  • Ensures all children’s programs provide quality care, service and support to the participants and their families.
  • Understands and complies with provincial, municipal and Milestone Child Guidance Policies.
  • Plans and implements a consistent Montessori program in accordance with Milestone curriculum “a Place to Connect”.
  •  Attends required curriculum training and all other relevant professional development opportunities necessary for the position.
  • Maintains qualifications and certifications as required by Milestone Montessori and provincial standards.
  •  Completes required documentation of children’s development and interactions.
  • Participates in and applies knowledge from research to children’s learning.
  • Cleans and sanitizes child care spaces, focusing on frequently touched surfaces, equipment, toys, and any other areas or items deemed necessary, following Milestones health and safety protocols and procedures.
  • Identifies the indicators of abuse and is prepared to report signs of child abuse to the Children’s Aid Society.
  • Seeks opportunities to deepen connections and increase engagement of parents and children in care, providing further opportunities to get involved in Milestone’s Summer Program.
  • Demonstrates appropriate behaviors in line with our Mission, Vision and Values as reflected in our Milestones competencies; takes a member focused approach to increase their understanding of programs offered. Represents Milestone Montessori in a professional manner.
  • Adheres to work schedule to ensure program stays within ratio and provides required adequate notice to supervisor regarding unexpected scheduling changes.
  •  Understands and supports Milestone’s philanthropic commitments, connects with families and offers opportunities to give, including participation in special events within the center.

 Qualifications

Registered Early Childhood Educator Qualifications:

  • Early Childhood Educator Diploma or Degree
  • Must be registered and a member in good standing in the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE)

Early Learning Facilitator Qualifications:

  • Child and Youth Work Diploma, Bachelors of Education, or Social Service Worker
  • Candidates with a Bachelor of Education must be registered with the Ontario College of Teachers to be eligible for the Early Learning Facilitator rate of pay

Early Childhood Assistant Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma

Montessori Teacher Qualifications:

  • MACTE or AMI Diploma
  • Currently a student in the process of completing their Montessori Teachers training
  • RECE/ECA Qualifications

French Teacher Qualifications:

  • Native French Speaker
  • Diploma in French or Education – Or in process of completing education
  • Teaching Certificate in a Foreign Language

General Qualifications:

  •  Minimum of six months’ experience working with young children
  •  •Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers
  • Only those individuals legally entitled to work in Canada will be considered for employment with Milestone Montessori
  • Ability to use frequent light to medium physical effort: lifting up to 20 kg (44 lbs.), bending and stooping, pushing, carrying and pulling
  • Must be able to work outdoors for at least 2 hours daily year-round; may be exposed to heat, humidity or cold
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  •  Commitment to working in a socially inclusive environment responding with sensitivity and personal awareness to the diverse needs of members including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity
  • A capacity to work within a team
  • All staff working with children are required under the Child Care and Early Year’s Act to have a valid standard first aid certification including infant and child cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) prior to the first day of work, along with a Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Flexibility regarding assigned working hours, able to work early morning and mid-late afternoons, and evenings Monday to Friday

Job offers are contingent upon the successful completion of a Police Records Check. Within the first four months and every three years thereafter, a Vulnerable Police Records Check is required.
