FROM THE PRESIDENT
CCMA PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY
On May 15 2015 I and approximately 459 other Montessorians, attended the 5th Annual P.D. Day, held at Northstar Montessori School, in Mississauga.
I think this is a record. It was wonderful spotting former students and friends in the crush of people.
Dr. Steven Hughes, pediatric neuropsychologist, with a strong interest in everything Montessori, (je is presently Chair of AMI Global Research Committee and a member of AMS Research Committee), spoke to this huge crowd, which filled the gym, with some people having to stand and some poking their heads into the room.
In two separate presentations, he:
a) discussed what makes Montessori education so effective in “fueling the flame” of each child’s unique identity and helps produce curious, creative, morally inspired adults and
b) reviewed key neuroscience research and discussed how Montessori Education stimulates brain and cognitive development.
It is always good to receive current information and confirm that our efforts with the children matter.

It was wonderful to meet so many friends and colleagues in The Old Mill Hotel at the 2014 Conference. We enjoyed Jonathan Wolff’s Keynote presentation, and the enriching selection of workshops. We send good wishes to Claudia Langlois, the new CAMT President, and her committee for their future work of providing stimulating Professional Education opportunities for Montessori teachers.
Our colleague, Zahra Faroud from Lethbridge, attended the CAMT Conference with her friend Claire who teaches a 6 – 9 Montessori class in a Lethbridge Public School.
Thanks to Helen Traicus who joined the team of Calgary examiners for the recent, successful oral examinations.
