Spring Workshop

This interactive, hands-on workshop is designed to better equip the Casa Director/Directress in teaching their children Health and Physical Education in a method consistent with Montessori Philosophy.  Jason Rybak, Athletics and Community Programs Director at Bannockburn School, will present varied activities that focus on the 6 primary areas of physical development for Casa-aged children; (1)Body Awareness, (2)Spatial Awareness, (3)Locomotion, (4)Stability, (5)Effort, and (6)Manipulation of Objects.

 

Supplementary to the 6 primary areas of physical development, participants will implement strategies to integrate all 6 areas into sport-specific instruction in an age-appropriate, non-competitive and cooperative manner.   Fundamental universal skill sets are developed by focusing in the 6 areas of physical development.  As a result, directors and directresses can utilize this overall foundation their children have acquired.  The director/directress will learn how to help children apply these integrated skills sets to specific sport disciplines and their respective physical demands.

 

Upon completion of this program, participants will be provided with a physical resource listing the activities covered during the workshop as well as other suggested exercises. Most importantly, however, is that all workshop participants will realize they, themselves, do not need to be an elite athlete or even skilled in all sports in order to provide high-quality, age-appropriate and effective instruction to their Casa children.
